About the Role
Modular Comfort Systems is seeking an experienced HVAC Sales Engineer to support and grow commercial HVAC sales throughout Western and Central New York. This customer-facing role is ideal for a technically skilled sales professional who can build strong relationships with contractors, consulting engineers, facility owners, and internal team members while recommending effective HVAC solutions for commercial applications.
The HVAC Sales Engineer will combine technical product knowledge with consultative sales skills to identify opportunities, prepare proposals, support project coordination, and provide responsive service from initial inquiry through project completion.
What You’ll Do
- Develop and maintain relationships with contractors, consulting engineers, facility managers, building owners, and other commercial HVAC customers.
- Identify new business opportunities and support expansion within assigned accounts and territories.
- Promote company products and services by making sales calls, scheduling appointments, conducting follow-ups, and presenting HVAC solutions.
- Review customer needs, plans, specifications, and project requirements to recommend appropriate equipment selections and applications.
- Prepare and present quotes, proposals, submittals, product information, and technical recommendations.
- Coordinate order processing after approved submittals, including purchase orders, tax-exempt forms, manufacturer documentation, and project files.
- Communicate with manufacturers, contractors, and internal team members to support accurate pricing, product availability, delivery timelines, and order fulfillment.
- Monitor active projects from quote through installation and start-up to help ensure customer satisfaction and proper equipment performance.
- Provide technical guidance and product knowledge to customers, consulting engineers, contractors, and internal staff.
- Stay informed on HVAC product developments, industry trends, manufacturer updates, and competitive activity.
- Work independently to manage priorities, meet revenue goals, and maintain accurate project and customer information.
What We’re Looking For
- Bachelor’s degree or Associate degree in Mechanical Engineering Technology, HVAC applications, engineering, construction management, business, or a related field preferred.
- Equivalent combinations of education, technical training, and relevant experience will be considered.
- Prior sales experience required; experience in commercial HVAC, mechanical equipment, or technical sales strongly preferred.
- Strong understanding of HVAC systems, equipment selection, applications, and commercial construction processes.
- Ability to read and interpret project documents, specifications, schedules, and technical product information.
- Excellent customer service, communication, presentation, and relationship-building skills.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and the ability to learn internal systems, manufacturer portals, and sales tools.
- Self-motivated, organized, and able to manage multiple opportunities and projects with minimal supervision.
- Valid driver’s license and ability to travel within the assigned territory as needed.
Preferred Experience and Attributes
- Established customer, contractor, or engineering relationships in Western New York or surrounding markets.

As a Service Technician, you will perform maintenance, troubleshoot, and perform repairs and work on factory-authorized start-ups of commercial HVAC equipment including chillers, air handlers, heat pumps, unit ventilators, cooling towers, boilers, and VRV (Variable Refrigerant Volume) systems.
Tremendous opportunity for someone who has an EPA Refrigeration Certification at Level II or higher. We prefer someone with formal HVAC training and a minimum of 2-3 years prior commercial HVAC experience. OSHA 10-hour certification is a plus.
You must be able to communicate on a professional level both orally and in writing. The ability to use email and fill out reports in Excel, Word, or on customer reports is required.
You must possess a valid NY Driver’s license free of infractions at the time of hire and maintain such throughout employment. Must be willing to travel outside the area of Rochester to Syracuse and Buffalo to service customers from time to time.

We are seeking an experienced Category I Chiller HVAC Service Technician to join our team.
A Chiller Technician (Category 1) is a skilled professional responsible for maintaining, repairing, and troubleshooting various types of refrigeration systems, specifically large-scale equipment like chillers and their associated components. They play a crucial role in ensuring the efficient and safe operation of chilled water systems in various environments, including commercial and industrial settings.
Key responsibilities
- Performing preventive maintenance and inspections on chiller systems and associated equipment like cooling towers, pumps, motors, and controls.
- Diagnosing and troubleshooting mechanical and electrical issues within chiller systems and identifying the appropriate solutions.
- Repairing or replacing faulty components, including compressors, evaporators, condensers, valves, and other parts.
- Conducting system performance tests to ensure optimal operation and identify potential issues before they cause breakdowns.
- Interpreting technical manuals, schematics, and blueprints to effectively troubleshoot and repair systems.
- Maintaining accurate service records and documentation of all work performed.

Qualifications

- Desired qualifications include experience with WSHPs, RTUs, and SWUDs, manufacturer certifications, familiarity with BAS, and proficiency in reading technical documents.
- Strong technical, communication, and problem-solving skills are necessary.
